  • What will my first session be like?
I will begin by introducing myself, establishing some boundaries for the sessions and telling you a little bit about the way that I work. Then, I may ask you to talk about why you’re here and what you’d like to work on. You don’t have to know why straight away and it’s ok if you’re not sure yet – I will help you work that out. Please feel free to ask me anything you want to know about how things will work in each session and what is expected of you.
  • What if I don’t know what to say?
Silence is ok too. Sometimes you won’t be able to think of anything to say – that’s ok and there’s no need to feel awkward. Take your time and eventually the conversation will flow naturally again.
  • Do you have a therapy contract?
Yes, before we start therapy a therapy contract is agreed upon. You can take a look at my therapy contract here. It states general terms and conditions - I will discuss them with you before it is agreed upon.
  • How should I make the most out of my sessions?
Counselling can be hard sometimes because you’re talking through issues you find difficult and this can bring up lots of emotions. Remember to be kind to yourself and know that it’s ok if you struggle – the process takes time and it’s normal to find it challenging. Try writing down the things that come up during each section. It will help you to remember what you have learned and reflect on issues that have been brought up. It’s important to remember that not every session will feel as helpful as others, but that’s ok. I am trained to help you reach the goals that you set together and will guide you in the right direction.
  • Will anyone else know what we talk about?
Everything you say to me will be completely confidential, unless I am concerned for your life or the life of someone you know, so you can feel free to tell them anything you like.
  • How does online counselling works?
Nowadays it is very simple to communicate online with your therapist. You can use a desktop computer, tablet or smartphone wherever you are and I will speak to you via an easy-to-use, secure service, like Zoom. Your session will still be arranged in advance at a time to suit you and you can decide whether you'd like to see me via a video call or just talk instead.
  • Counselling online and remote therapy is it just as effective?
Numerous studies have found online counselling and remote therapy to be just as effective as visiting a counsellor or therapist face to face. Some clients who have the time for face to face therapy even prefer online counselling because they find it gives them more flexibility and comfort.
